Kids are the Future
Just 20 years ago kids spent the majority of the day outdoors playing with the other neighborhood kids and exploring the world around them. Nowadays, that is not the case. Most parents today are more cautious and would rather have their children play indoors where they are safe from the daily dangers that surround us. There are many distractions that keep the attention of this young and curious generation. Now kids spend most of their free time watching T.V., playing video games, and/or playing on the internet. Media has taken the place of playing outside and staying active.
In today’s society, children tend to live sedentary lives where they not only spend eight hours sitting in school, but when they arrive at home they tend to sit with electronics in hand for extended periods of time. Of course this type of lifestyle is not healthy. According to the CDC’s “Childhood Obesity Facts”, 1 in 5 children from the ages of 6-19 are considered obese. Obesity can lead to many health conditions including asthma, type 2 diabetes, heart related diseases, high-blood pressure, low-self-esteem and a variety of others. Children who suffer from obesity will more than likely carry it into adulthood where the risks for these health conditions will become greater.
We understand that this information can be overwhelming, but the understanding of it is necessary. The good news is that we have the ability to alter the trajectory of today’s children and that alteration is through exercise and nutrition. Getting children excited about living a healthy lifestyle is the key. Working together to INSPIRE and TEACH children is our goal. The health benefits of proper exercise and nutrition in children is astounding and it will lower their risk of developing life-threatening conditions and diseases.
Kids are the future, lead by example and get them active.
